Beach bars at Potamos

The sandy beach of Potamos stretches out over several kilometres and is famous for its shallow, clean waters. Τhe beach is also famous for its superb beach bars where you can enjoy drinks and delicious food and why not try water sports as well. Parking is never an issue here as there’s plenty of open space where you can park your car free of charge.

The Shipwreck (Navagio)

About 1 km away from the beach bars of Potamos, you can find Navagio (The Shipwreck). It is an actual cargo ship that was sunk 40 years ago after it was abandoned by the company that had undertaken the task of dumping soil and debris in the area in an attempt to urbanize the beautiful wetlands surrounding the beach. Navagio’s proximity to the shore makes the sight of the shipwreck even more impressive.

The spectacular sandbar of Potamos beach

Very close to Navagio (The Shipwreck) is the sandbar of Potamos beach, the cape of Epanomi. The impressive sandy shoreline which stretches for some meters into the sea is often referred to as 'Myti / Mytika' (the nose) or 'Faros / Fanari' (from the lighthouse found in the area).

The wetlands

The coastal part of Epanomi comprises two Natura sites which for their greatest part overlap. The first one is 'Limnothalassa Epanomis' and the zone 'Limnothalassa Epanomis kai and Coastal Area' (which includes the sandbar of Myti)

Metochi of Agia (Saint) Anastasia

The monastery of Agia Anastasia or Monastery of Kritziana (named after the village of the same name) is a medieval fort built in 1530 in order to protect the residents of the village from pirates. Although abandoned much of the castle is still in good condition and stands out imposing itself across the surrounding wheat fields.
